3Point’s after-school program of project-based classroom learning amplified by basketball sported a new dimension this year. At the Sarah Greenwood School in Dorchester, 3Point introduced a new project-based learning program amplified by dance. The idea for the program came from the movie and television actor and producer and part-time 3Point dance instructor, Eliza Palandjian, now finishing her college degree at Simmons College. Our Academic Director, Joan Arches, worked extensively with Twyla Everett, an accomplished dancer and instructor, introduced to 3Point by Eliza, to develop the dance curriculum that started in the fall. During the spring term, the pilot program at Sarah Greenwood was expanded to fifteen at the request of the school, and the dance program was successfully introduced at the Joseph Lee School in Dorchester by 3Point Instructor and Sarah Greenwood para-professional Derick Quest. Based on the effectiveness and unqualified success of the dance program, we will be expanding it to all of our schools in the 2019-2020 school year, in part through a partnership with Everybody Dance.

"We envision all of Boston’s youth having an equal opportunity for achievement."

We seek to close the opportunity and achievement gap caused by economic inequality for underserved, low-income Boston elementary and middle school youth by providing free community-based programs that integrate project-based learning, athletics, dance, and other activities to foster the development of 21st century skills, social-emotional growth, and a growth mindset - all of which are crucial to future success.
