In the spring term, we were excited to pilot a newly designed project-based learning program supplemented by basketball for 4th and 5th graders at The Sarah Greenwood School. The program, which focuses on values and fostering social change, will enable us to work year with students from 4th-8th grades in our after-school programs. Our focus is on transformational change and impact, and this is part of the strategy. The 4th and 5th grade program used project-based learning to encourage the development of 21st century skills and features social-emotional development in the classroom and on the basketball court. Like the middle school program, students give voice to their ideas using technology and fabrication equipment. The younger students were excited about participating in this new program, and based on the program’s results, we will expand it across a number of our schools in 2020.

"We envision all of Boston’s youth having an equal opportunity for achievement."

We seek to close the opportunity and achievement gap caused by economic inequality for underserved, low-income Boston elementary and middle school youth by providing free community-based programs that integrate project-based learning, athletics, dance, and other activities to foster the development of 21st century skills, social-emotional growth, and a growth mindset - all of which are crucial to future success.
